Islands Race Returns March 11, 2016

Welcome to the 2016 Islands Race!

Similar to last year, the Islands Race will be SDYC’s first (US based) offshore regatta to be followed by the SoCal 300 in May and the Rum Runner regatta in October. Islands Race competitors will start in Long Beach Harbor and sail around Santa Catalina and San Clemente Islands prior to completing the race in Point Loma, San Diego. This event is consistently well-attended by over 30 boats ranging from 25-100 feet in length. I’m thrilled to be serving as chairman of this picturesque race again this year and am excited for another great event.

The 2016 Islands Race marks the 7th year of this popular event developed in partnership between the San Diego Yacht Club and the Newport Harbor Yacht Club. The successful long-term co-hosting of this race has proven to be a strong example of yacht clubs working together to promote, advance and improve the sport of yacht racing.

Newport Harbor Yacht Club will host a welcome reception prior to the race, and San Diego Yacht Club will host the awards ceremony Saturday afternoon on the main deck. Racing fans, and family and friends of the competitors can follow along with the racing action with the online race tracking broadcast courtesy of Yellow Brick Tracking.

So please mark your calendars and prepare for another lively event in some of Southern California’s most beautiful waters!
