Sailors with EXPIRED or EXPIRING International Safety at Sea Certificates

If your International Safety at Sea Certificate expired in 2020 or 2021 and you were unable to schedule participation in a Hands-On course in either 2020 or 2021, your International Offshore Certificate will be extended by US Sailing, valid through the end of 2021. We anticipate Hands-On courses to begin to be posted on the calendar later in 2021 and a full schedule for 2022.

PLEASE NOTE: EVERYONE renewing an International Safety at Sea course MUST complete the additional, newly released International Online Safety at Sea Course Units 11-15 in order to be eligible to receive the new certificate as per policy approved in 2020 by US Sailing. This policy went into effect on January 1, 2021. Therefore, please complete these units before your hands-on training in 2022.

Sailors who want to upgrade to an International Offshore certificate with Hands-On Training

If you took an Offshore Safety at Sea Course in 2019 or in 2020 (either in-person or online) and want to upgrade to an International Offshore certificate, but you will NOT BE ABLE TO MEET THE 365 DAY REQUIREMENT due to Hands On course unavailability due to the COVID crisis, you have until the end of 2022 to take a Hands-On course.
